I read this piece a wee while ago when I could not write a BTL comment. I am doing it now: It’s an impressive bit of writing and a really thought provoking piece about leadership and managing people in an organisation.

Thankyou.

My last 3 CG years were in a command position. Years of informal leadership “training” and experience were immediately paramount in my mind. I thought long and hard about how I wanted to lead and realized that as a CO if you don’t go home tired every day - even mundane days - you aren’t leading. Leadership takes more effort than anything I’ve ever done.

You’ve proven this with the thought and energy you put into this essay. And the fact that your used your transition as a means of improving your leadership. This is an incredible take on leading and military command in particular.

Its leaders who actually think about how their lived experience can be leveraged to improve themselves as leaders - and good/effective leaders = mission success and high morale.

Really well done and lots for me to consider as I continue in life…
